Mr. Xiao is a senior patent attorney and litigator in chemical and life sciences field with technical expertise covering all aspects of chemical engineering and chemistry, such as polymers, as well as all aspects of life sciences, including pharmaceuticals. He is also one of the senior managers of the firm’s Biotech & Chemical Patent Division.
Since joining East IP in 2002, Mr. Xiao has assisted many Fortune 500 corporations in securing and enforcing their IP rights in China. Through over a decade of services, Mr. Xiao gained extensive experience in patent drafting and prosecution and reexamination before the China National IP Administration.
In addition, Mr. Xiao has deep experience in patent litigation, having litigated dozens of cases before the Patent Reexamination Board,the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate Court, the Beijing IP Court, and the Beijing High Court on behalf of various MNCs, including Pfizer, DSM, 3M, and many others.
Mr. Xiao is experienced in the prosecution and enforcement of industrial designs. Mr. Xiao successfully represented clients such as Nokia and Toyota in numerous design invalidity actions. He assisted Toyota to obtain its first successful judgment in a design dispute before a Chinese court.
Mr. Xiao also counsels clients on a variety of other IP matters, including ownership, trade secret protection, licensing, etc. Notably, Mr. Xiao represented a US company in a negotiating issuesconcerning patent ownership with the client’s Chinese OEM manufacturer, and successfully helped the client recover ownership of 18 design patents.
