The firm’s leadership includes industry veterans with decades of experience in leading Chinese and international law firms. The co-chairs of the firm are Dr. Li Xiaodong and Joe Simone.
Our team is among the most international of all Chinese IP service providers, with attorneys qualified to practice law in China, as well as those with legal qualifications in the United States, Australia, England and Hong Kong. Several of our senior practitioners also work in the US, Japan, Canada and Europe. Our international perspective allows smooth communication across cultures.
East IP was established in 2002 by Dr. Gao Lulin and a team of senior patent and trademark professionals serving leading foreign and Chinese clients in the high-tech industries. In its first 20 years, the firm grew to over 290 team members.
In early 2024, 90 partners and staff from leading trademark firm SIPS joined East IP, expanding the firm’s presence to Hong Kong and Guangzhou. SIPS was established in 2012 by Joe Simone, and the firm was quickly recognized as a tier one service provider among Hong Kong-based firms handing trademark prosecution and enforcement work in mainland China. Joe is known for his thought leadership in the China IP world and for his advocacy work with associations such as the International Trademark Association and the Quality Brands Protection Committee.
In mid-2024, a group of 35 partners and staff led by highly regarded trademark practitioner Jimmy Huang Jingwen joined East IP from a leading Chinese law firm. Jimmy now heads the trademark prosecution practice of East IP. His clients include leading multinational corporations, as well as top-tier Chinese brand owners.
