Tom joined East IP as a senior consultant in June 2024.

Tom has spent over 25 years of his career working in Asia with international and regional law firms and is working with East IP in supporting its work with foreign clients in China as well as helping Chinese clients in navigating IP registration and enforcement matters worldwide.

Tom currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and is the current Chair of the Far East Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).

Tom has spent most of his career counseling clients on registering and enforcing IP rights in Asia, and, in particular, in Vietnam, where until 2023, he led the Vietnam offices of one of the largest law firms in Vietnam.
Tom is a USPTO registered patent attorney, and practiced patent law earlier in his career in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles, where he focused on technology in the computer and electronics sectors.

Tom is a member of the State Bar of California.

Tom was selected as Client Choice Honorable Mention for Lawyer of Year in Vietnam for 2023 by Asialaw, and over the last 15 years has consistently been named a leading practitioner in IP law in Vietnam by publications such as Chambers, Legal500, Managing Intellectual Property, and WTR / IAM Patent.

Tom was also named as one of “30 Shining Role Models in the Judicial Field” by the Vietnamese Minister of Justice in 2016.

Tom graduated magna cum laude from the Indiana University – Bloomington Mauer School of Law, and holds a BSE in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.

Tom is fluent in Vietnamese.
